Special Educational Needs

Ben Swain

Our school SENCO is Ben Swain.

At Nascot Wood Infant and Nursery School we have a strong commitment to meeting the needs of all children. Many children need extra help at school at one time or another and some have specific or general learning difficulties or behavioural difficulties.

If your child is assessed as needing additional support you will be consulted and be kept fully informed and involved with your child’s development. Children with Special Educational Needs follow the school curriculum as far as they are able. We have a non-class based SENCo, who works closely with staff and parents to devise appropriate programmes of learning for the children. We often work in partnership with specialists from other services to support the children’s learning.

Please see Policies for our Medical Conditions policy.

If you require further information, please contact our SENCO through the school office.

Delivering Special Provision Locally (DSPL)

What is Delivering Special Provision Locally (DSPL)?

DSPL is a Hertfordshire-wide partnership approach where parents, staff in early years settings and schools, further education colleges, local authority officers and representatives from other agencies, work together as part of an Area Group, reviewing and developing the range of provision and support services available to their local community that :

  • Meets the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), aged 0-25, as close to home as possible.
  • Improves outcomes for wellbeing and attainment
  • Widens choice for children and parents/carers
  • Removes barriers to learning
  • Uses resources more effectively
